3. Consider your response to familiarly
asked interview questions
- What do you consider your strengths and
weaknesses to be?
- What do you look for in a job/career?
- Why are you looking for a new job?
- What do you know of the company?
- What are your long-term goals?
- What have you achieved in your current
job?
4. Research the Company
- Find out what the company does, what does
it produce, manufacture or is it service driven?
- Find useful information on the prospective
employer on their website
- Ask the company for a brochure and/or
latest set of accounts
- What type of people do they employ? Find
out from your consultant if they have placed anyone else
with this company, and if so, can they give you any feedback
5. Will there be any technical tests
or assessments
- Find out in advance and be prepared
6. Find out about the vacancy
- Do you have a job and person specification?
- Has the position been advertised, if so,
ask for a copy of the advert
- Ensure you know what you’re applying
for, so you know how best to ‘sell’ yourself.
This will avoid any misunderstanding at the interview
7. The Interview
- Present yourself well
- It is likely you will need a dark, conservative
business suit, unless otherwise advised
- Arrive on time, possibly 10-15 minutes
early to avoid being late
- Have some carefully prepared questions
ready, this will demonstrate you are interested in the role
and the company
- Don’t be afraid to ask questions
during the interview
- Be enthusiastic and interested in what’s
being said
- Don’t talk badly about your former/current
employer
- Cover any objections positively – gaps
in career history, education etc.
- Be calm
- Most importantly - be yourself
8. Concluding the Interview
- Ask any final questions, e.g. Does the
department have any expansion plans?
- Thank the interviewer for his/her time
- If you are interested in the role, tell
the interviewer!
- Ask what happens next and within what
time scale
- Remain positive right to the end of the
interview.
9. After the Interview
- Contact your consultant as soon as possible
to give them your feedback
- Ask the consultant if they have spoken
with the client to give you feedback
- If you feel that the interview went badly
in any way, convey this to the consultant so they are able
to rectify or clarify this if possible
